Das Projekt

The Selva Preta Project is a fledgling platform for a refreshing take on Brazilian-based carnival arts in the Black Forest region (Germany and Alsace) and home for the projects of German based, London dancer and carnival artist, Sasha K.
It contains not only information about classes, workshops and presentations but also about other related events and projects in and around the region.

Selva Preta explained:

Selva Preta is not a person's name, or at least not here.....
Selva: Forest, jungle, Wald, Dschungel, forêt
Preta: Black, Schwarz, noir

About the Artist:

Sasha K has an extensive background in fine art, dance and cultural administration. She is active as a performer, educator and costume artist. 5-time designer of winning costumes for London's Notting Hill Carnival. She was also Queen of the Drums (Rainha da Batería) for Britain's top samba group (the London school of Samba) as well as their Musa during a 5-year period.

Born and bred in London, Sasha moved to Germany's Black Forest region in 2007. While she teaches and is engaged largely in Brazilian-based carnival activities, her passion and aim is for cultural exchange both on a local and international level and is open to collaborations from different cultures and directions. A mixed-up Londoner living in Germany, trying to coordinate in French, expected to speak Portuguese, it's bound to be a little crazy... so watch this space for cuckoo clocks and "Bollenhütte" too!
